Whitney Wolfe Herd is amongst Austin’s most highly nationally profiled women at the moment. She has been on the cover of both Fast Company and the new December issue of Forbes within a period of two months. Whitney has turned match-making into a booming business by co-founding Bumble where she is the CEO. Bumble has over 22 million users and has lately expanded into other verticals and opening new apps such as the Bumble BFF and the Bumble Bizz. Forbes has estimated that the company will score revenue of over 100 million dollars for the first time this year. Bumble is a women-centric social brand where the woman is the first one to make a move if there is a successful match. She stated that Bumble was created for that confident woman who will go for what she wants, therefore, giving dating a feminine- approach. Forbes reported that Bumble has 70-85 percent women and the rest are men.
Whitney Wolfe was born in Salt Lake City, Utah in 1989 and she attended Southern Methodist University. She was named on the Forbes 30 top 30 which is a list of most influential young innovators of the year. She met her now husband Michael Herd in 2013 on a Christmas vacation in Aspen through their mutual friends. She got engaged to him on July 2016 when he proposed to her during a visit to Michael’s ranch in Texas and their wedding took place in Positano, Italy in September 2017.
On 2016, Whitney Wolfe launched an extension of Bumble called Bumble Bizz. This is an app that would be used to network. The app will be there to give networking a feminine touch that has not been there in the past. Bumble Bizz will also be operated like Bumble where women will make the first move. It is a platform for people to get to know each other and create both social and professional relationships. Bumble BFF is the new way for women to form new friendships. Most people who used Bumble would keep using it long after they met the right guy because of friendships they had formed there, Whitney saw it a better idea to create an app exclusively for women to meet and be friends. This app is mostly used by people who are on vacations or have moved into new places where they don’t know anyone to meet new friends. Whitney believes in empowering and supporting women that is why she came up with Bumble, Bumble BFF, and Bumble Bizz.
